Medial (Sledge) Knee Replacement

Medial (Sledge) Knee Replacement

Dr. Fabula has extensive experience in partial knee replacement procedures (medial/sledge prosthesis or unicompartmental knee prosthesis), which are used when only one side of the knee joint is significantly damaged while the other joint surfaces remain relatively intact. Statistics show that only about 30% of knee surgeons perform this type of surgery.

This procedure can be indicated in the early stages, as it is much less invasive than total knee replacement, preserving the unaffected parts of the joint.

Recovery is faster, the range of motion remains closer to that of a natural knee, and postoperative quality of life can be significantly higher.

The medial (sledge) knee prosthesis is particularly suitable for active patients in the younger prosthesis age group (45–60 years), aiming to regain maximum mobility and stability, but it can also be successfully used in older patients, as the surgical load is much lower than with total knee replacement. Naturally, the decision for surgery is guided by clinical symptoms and radiological imaging.
